Why You Should Start 2017 With a Dental Visit

dental benefitsA new year, a new you—right? Perhaps you’ve started a weight loss program, organized your finances, or decided this will be the year you finally take that dream trip to Italy. If so, congratulations! We applaud you on your efforts.

In addition, we’d like to remind you of something no less important than eating your way through Italy: your teeth! A healthy mouth makes for a perfect way to kick off 2017.

Why Should I Schedule a Dentist Appointment Now?

Because we’re in a new calendar year, most dental benefit plans have renewed. So if you have dental work you were putting off last year because your benefits ran out, the time to get those procedures completed is now. Postponing treatment longer than necessary will almost always result in more costly or more complicated treatment.

Why Are Regularly Scheduled Dental Appointments So Important?

During your hygiene visits, we complete a thorough check up of your teeth, gums, and other areas of your mouth. Your friendly hygienist carefully cleans your teeth, removing plaque and tartar that exist below the gumline. Unfortunately, these are areas you can’t reach with a toothbrush, so without regular dental checkups, tartar would develop unchecked.

We will check the health of your gum tissue to detect the early signs of gum disease and help with home dental care. We will also periodically take x-rays to check for any cavities undetectable to the human eye. Finally, Dr. Sanyk will examine your mouth for signs of oral cancer. Since your dentist is the only medical professional who regularly screens for this type of cancer, a dental appointment is your best opportunity to discover oral cancer in its early stages. Early discovery of cancer leads to better heath outcomes.

Based on the results of your dental exam, Dr. Sanyk will develop a treatment plan to keep your teeth and gums their healthiest.

I’m Not Due for a Checkup but I’ve Been Considering Cosmetic Enhancements. What Are My Options?

Popular cosmetic enhancements include teeth whitening, bonding, and veneers:

Teeth Whitening

At Smile Hilliard, we’re happy to offer both in-chair and take-home options for professional whitening results. With our Boost Whitening treatment, you can brighten your smile comfortably and quickly. This in-office treatment offers immediate results, while the at-home trays will whiten your teeth over time. Either option leads to beautiful, professionally whitened teeth.

Bonding

Cosmetic bonding is a quick and easy way to improve the look of your smile. It’s perfect for people with chipped teeth, gaps between teeth, discolored teeth, or other irregularities. Bonding requires little to no tooth removal, and it can typically be completed in less than an hour.

Veneers

If you’ve ever envied the bright, white perfection of a celebrity smile, porcelain veneers are for you! With porcelain veneers, Dr. Sanyk will affix thin pieces of custom made porcelain to your teeth, allowing you to have the smile of your dreams.

Better still, veneers are durable, long-lasting, and require little to no removal of your original tooth structure. They can fix a variety of issues—everything from cracked teeth to discoloration—and you even have the opportunity to see a mock-up of your smile before the work is started. This allows you to offer feedback, ensuring you’ll love the look of your new smile!
