Intraoral Camera

When you visit the dentist to have your teeth examined, it can be difficult to understand exactly what the dentist is talking about - even after they thoroughly explain what’s going on. This is where an intraoral camera comes in to make everything a lot simpler and easier to understand!

What is an Intraoral Camera?

An intraoral camera is a tool used by a dentist to take images of the inside of a patient's mouth, which can then be put onto a monitor for the dentist and patient to view. At Smile Hilliard, an intraoral camera helps allow you to be completely involved with your care and treatment decisions. You see what we see!

Intraoral cameras were first introduced in 1989, and have been growing in popularity ever since. They use LED lighting and powerful magnification to display a high quality image that makes a dentists’ work easier to explain, and patients’ experiences easier to understand.

What are the Benefits to Using Intraoral Cameras?

At Smile Hilliard, we use an intraoral camera for the benefit of both our patients and our staff. When Dr. Sanyk examines your teeth, she’ll utilize the pictures of your teeth to help explain certain conditions or results with you.

When considering options for treatment, it’s much more effective having an actual photograph of the problem, instead of relying solely on x-rays. We want to involve our patients in their care and for them to be 100% confident in the decisions they make regarding their oral health. Intraoral cameras help us communicate this in the clearest way possible.

Our software also allows us the ability to save these images in your digital file, so we can easily refer back to them to compare gradual changes within your mouth over time. This is a very convenient option to show certain conditions such as gum recession or tooth wear from grinding. Lastly, we can monitor any tissue abnormalities, from lumps and bumps to scrapes and lesions.

In addition to the clinical benefits of having pictures of your teeth, the staff at Smile Hilliard utilize these images as well. Intraoral photos are advantageous when submitting dental claims to your insurance company. Having clear evidence of your oral conditions allows faster claim turnaround and fewer denials. This is just one more way that we can make having your treatment completed at our office hassle-free!
